National Student Design Awards – 2009

On Tuesday 20th October the Textile Institute’s National Student Design Awards were held at RMIT University in Brunswick.

The annual competition is open to all final year fashion students from fashion institutes and colleges from around Australia.  This year 26 finalists were showcased their artwork and garments to an audience of over 200 people.  All the finalist designs were then paraded prior to the awarding of prizes.

The grand final prize of 4 weeks tuition and accommodation at the Paris American Academy (sponsored by the International Fibre Centre) was chosen by a judging panel and awarded to Elisa Teguh Purnomo who is a 3rd year Bachelor of Applied Science (Fashion Technology) student at RMIT University.

Elisa’s design was a beautiful dress made up of a red gradient of cascading pleated fans.  The judges were unanimous in their decision and were impressed with not only the pattern making and construction of the gown but the supporting artwork and specification work that Elisa had created.

Elisa will get to attend a month long summer workshop at the Paris American Academy in July 2010 where she will get to work with some of the best fashion technicians and absorb the inspiration of the beautiful city of Paris.

There were several other industry sponsored prizes awarded on the evening and the recipients were:
