CENTENARY STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS SHOWCASE, OCTOBER 19TH 2010

AWARD WINNER ANNOUNCED, AWARDS PRESENTED –

TEXTILE INSTITUTE CENTENARY CELEBRATED

The TISA Awards Showcase presented over 20 finalists from across the educational sectors Australia-wide providing unique recruitment and promotional opportunities. The annual Textile Institute Southern Australian Section (TISA) design competition is for full time fashion students across Australia.  It provides students with the opportunity to participate in an exciting competition that brings together industry partners and potential employees - the future of the TCF industry.

TISA is the only professional organisation in the textile and fibre industry that provides the unique opportunity for Australian fashion and textiles students to study overseas at the prestigious Paris American Academy (PAA). 

Awards Showcase and Design competition Highlights:

Celebration Cocktail party, enjoyed by 100 guests - Thanks to the level of valuable support, this event continues to maintain a high entertainment and education opportunity to professional standard, while rewarding and encouraging the TCF workers of the future;

Display and Showing of all Student Design competitors; their art work; and garments - Great entrants, widely agreed that the calibre of entrants and 2010 finalists was better than anything achieved in previous years;

New Competition criteria, format and judging, well received - Great judging panel, generously devoted time and care to identifying potential Industry standards in the entrants. Plus, great education involvement - all entrants were nominated by their educational institutes, raised the bar as well. Grand Prize winner was selected from the finalists and then further prize allocation was open to the all competitors. Personal interaction by the entrants with judges and sponsors enabled practice in professional conversations. The generosity of the judges offering paid, work placements, added to the overall credibility of the decision-making process;

Third year, Fashion degree, graduating student from RMIT University, Brunswick. Sponsored by the International Fibre centre (IFC), the Grand prize is four weeks tuition and accommodation at the Paris American Academy, Paris www.parisamericanacademy.edu - Selected by a panel of local and international design professionals and PAA alumni, Jacinta was an extremely successful winner, picking up several other awards as well as the grand prize. Awards Presentation Judging and sponsorship of Awards by Industry leaders - Industry Prizes:

Cash; work experience prizes and career mentoring prizes were awarded, selected by individual award sponsors. 

Audience/public and Industry organization Prizes: Cash prize and other prizes were chosen, always a great opportunity for audience participation on the night of the Awards showcase;

Key note speaker note, special guest judge:  Mitchell Oakley Smith, author of FASHION - Australian and New Zealand Designers (Thames and Hudson), awarded a copy of his book;
